They`re so cute and cuddly and furry, so much like us that we want to take them home, assign human characteristics to them and turn them into our hairy babies and pals. Sometimes that relationship can serve as the source of comedy in movies; other times, it can be downright dangerous when we get too arrogant about our place in the animal kingdom. Here`s a look at five great movies about primates: Read...Newslink ©2024 to Stuff.co.nz | ![](/n.gif) |

| ![](/n.gif) | | Stuff.co.nz - 6 Oct (Stuff.co.nz)![NZ Located](/pimages/nzsmall.gif) Agricultural technology company Tru-Test Corporation has turned a $3.2 million net loss in 2010 into a $1.3m net profit this financial year.Acquisitions, efficiencies and an improved balance sheet are being credited as contributing to the turnaround in the year to 31 March 2011. Total sales increased from $70.6m in 2010 to $84.6m.The outlook for 2011 also appears strong, Tru-Test`s directors say in the company`s annual report released this week.`We have seen a significant improvement in the trading conditions in the New Zealand market since April this year. The higher commodity prices for sheep and beef and increased dairy returns have meant that farmers have been more willing to spend with our retail partners,` they say.`Trading conditions still remain uncertain in many of our other markets. Company performance at the end of the first quarter is on budget and ahead of last year.`However, the company is welcoming the weakening of the New Zealand dollar over the last fortnight. It`s strength is cited in the report as `an obvious negative factor`. Managing director Greg Muir said the exchange rate is still tough, but it has fallen by about 7 cents against the US dollar since the report was written.`It`s much better for us as exporters,` he said.Trading conditions, though, remained difficult in 2011. While dairy payouts were significantly higher during the latter part of the year in New Zealand, the benefit was not seen until the first quarter of the 2012 financial year. Meanwhile, North American and European dairy markets have not experienced the increased returns seen in Australasia.`A number of our overseas markets are still struggling to recover in the wake of the global financial crisis. Distribution partners are still very cautious in the level of stock that they are buying and holding in inventory,` the report says.Acquisitions during the year included EDiTiD in June 2010 and UK distributors Ritchey and Fearing in September 2010.The EDiTiD buy helped Tru-Test fill out its livestock RFID range of tags which allow farmers and processors to track animal movements through the supply chain. This acquisition was closely followed by the purchase of two animal ID tag companies in the United Kingdom, Ritchey and Fearing. Those buys, however, prompted the directors to make an additional disclosure. The company purchased Ritchey and Fearing using ASB debt funding. However, a `definition error` occurred in the documentation for this new facility which led to the company breaching two banking covenants as at 31 March 2011. That error forced Tru-Test to report the $14.2m loan as a current liability even though it is not expected to be repaid in the new current year.Once Tru-Test advised the bank of the breaches, it waived them, the report says. Tru-Test has also increased its shareholding in its Brazilian subsidiary FarmTech to 51 per cent to help it develop a market boasting a 196 million-strong cattle herd - the world`s largest.`With plenty of growth potential yet to be realised we expect it to be a very large market in the future,` the report says.New product development has produced two new scales, which Tru-Test describe as the first of its new generation of weighing products.`We will shortly be releasing our new handheld wand RFID reader to compliment the panel readers that we re-launched following the acquisition of EDiTiD. These products will provide the platform of products that farmers will require once mandatory RFID is introduced into New Zealand.`Hamilton-based rival Gallagher Group, which has intermittantly tried to take over Tru-Test, retains its 19.2 per cent shareholding in the company.
