Significant Weather Statement An active front, preceded by gale northwesterlies and followed by strong southerlies, is moving north across the country, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to southern and central New Zealand.
Northland and Auckland Cloudy periods. Isolated showers, turning to rain for a time this afternoon.
Waikato to Wellington, including Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, and the central high country Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers, turning to rain for a time during the day. Thunderstorms possible from this afternoon.
Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa Fine at first. Cloud increasing and scattered rain or showers developing this afternoon or evening.
Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury Rain spreading north this morning. Thunderstorms possible in Nelson and Marlborough in the afternoon and evening.
Buller, Grey and Westland Rain with heavy falls, turning to showers from the south this afternoon, possibly thundery in Buller.
Otago, Southland and Fiordland Periods of rain, easing to isolated showers this morning then clearing later.
Chatham Islands Fine.
