Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Friday 17 August
A few showers, more frequent and heavier this evening and early tomorrow with
thunderstorms possible about Mount Taranaki from tonight and the Raukumara Range
tomorrow afternoon. Showers becoming isolated most places tomorrow evening.
Northwesterlies, rising to gale in exposed places late afternoon, tending
westerly tomorrow afternoon and easing.
2400 metres lowering to 1600 metres tomorrow night.
A few showers, mainly in the west, clearing for a time tomorrow afternoon.
Remaining South Island mountain areas
Rain, with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms. Rain easing to a few showers
tomorrow afternoon, but clearing south of Mount Cook from afternoon. Snow
lowering to 600 or 700 metres tomorrow.
Northwesterlies, gale or severe gale at times, easing this evening, then dying
out tomorrow morning. Southerlies developing tomorrow evening.
2000 metres gradually lowering to 1500 metres but 1000 metres in the south
