    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Friday 22 November


    north island


    Showers, heavy at times with hail and thunderstorms, and snow lowering to 1200 metres in the south. Showers becoming isolated tomorrow morning.

    WINDS
    Gale southwesterlies, easing tomorrow.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    3000 metres in the north, sloping to 1500 metres in the south. Rising to 2400 metres tomorrow morning.

    Fiordland
    Fine. Showers developing tomorrow morning, clearing to mainly fine in the evening.

    Remaining mountain areas
    Showers north of Mt Cook, possibly heavy with snow to 1000 metres, clearing for a time this evening and tomorrow morning. Partly cloudy elsewhere.

    WINDS
    Southerlies, gale at times.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    1400 metres, rising to 2300 metres about and north of Kaikoura Range tomorrow Friday morning.
