    NZ Mountain Forecasts

    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Monday 28 September

    north island

    Showers about Mt Taranaki and the Tararuas, spreading everywhere this evening,
    turning to rain with heavy falls overnight tonight. Rain clearing tomorrow
    morning or afternoon, followed by showers and snow lowering to 1500 metres.
    Showers easing and becoming isolated from Raukumara to Ruahine Forest Parks
    tomorrow evening.

    Northwesterly gales, severe in exposed places.

    About 2800 metres, lowering to about 1800 metres late tomorrow.

    south island

    Showers in the west. Heavy rain with possible thunderstorms developing
    everywhere this evening, turning to snow showers tomorrow, some will be heavy
    with possible thunderstorms. However, becoming mainly fine with only isolated
    snow showers about the Kaikoura Ranges.

    Northwesterly gales, severe in exposed places, turning westerly tomorrow.

    2000 metres, rising to 2500 metres this evening, then lowering to 1200 metres in
    the north but 500 metres in the south later tomorrow.
