    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Tuesday 22 June


    north island



    Raukumara to Kaweka ranges, also Tongariro National Park
    Periods of rain with some heavy falls, and snow above 1900 metres, easing to showers this afternoon.

    Egmont National Park
    Mostly cloudy, with a few showers in the morning and evening.

    Ruahine and Tararua ranges
    Cloudy with showers, becoming widespread for a time in the afternoon.

    WINDS
    Gale southerlies, severe in exposed places, easing this morning.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 1800 metres, lowering to 1400 metres this morning.


    south island



    Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks
    Fine weather.

    Kaikoura ranges
    Fine at first. Showers developing this afternoon, then clearing in the evening.

    The Southern Alps
    Fine in the west. Areas of cloud developing in the east this morning.

    Fiordland National Park
    Mainly fine, but a few showers in the south with snow possible to 1000 metres.

    WINDS
    South or southwest winds, gale in exposed places south of Mt Cooks.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 1400 metres
