    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Saturday 04 July


    north island


    Mostly cloudy in the west while mostly fine in the east. Drizzle patches about
    Egmont National Park and the Tararua Forest Park, and possible morning drizzle
    about Tongariro National Park.

    WINDS
    Westerlies, turning north to northwest this evening and strengthening in the
    west.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 1600 metres.


    south island



    Kaikoura ranges
    Morning high cloud then fine.

    Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks
    Rain developing this morning.

    The Southern Alps and Fiordland
    Rain setting in this morning, with heavy falls at times. Snow lowering to 1200
    metres this evening, posibly to 1000 metres about Mt Aspiring National Park.

    WINDS
    Strong north to northwest winds, rising to gale or severe gale about and south
    of Mt Cook from afternoon.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 1800 metres.
