    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Friday 20 June

    Kaweka to Raukumara Forest Park
    Rain developing this evening, possibly heavy, easing to isolated showers early tomorrow morning.

    Remaining mountain areas
    Rain, possibly heavy, easing to showers this evening. Thunderstorms possible about Taranaki Maunga this afternoon and evening. Snow to 1600 metres.

    WINDS
    Gale westerlies.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 2000 metres, lowering to 1600 metres tomorrow evening.


    south island


    Periods of rain, possibly heavy with thunderstorms, and snow lowering to 1000 metres south of Aoraki/Mt Cook this evening. Showers becoming isolated from Friday afternoon, but the possibility of thunderstorms remains for western areas north of Arthur's Pass until night time.

    WINDS
    Gale northerlies, severe gale in exposed places, turning lighter southwesterly from Friday afternoon.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    1600 metres.
