Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Wednesday 21 August
Raukumara to Kaweka ranges
Rain with some heavy falls, clearing this afternoon. Cloud increasing tonight.
Remaining North Island mountain areas
Rain turning to showers this morning, and easing this afternoon. However, rain
returning to Mount Egmont this evening, with possible thunderstorms.
Northerlies, gale in exposed places, turning lighter westerly this afternoon.
Tending northwest this evening and rising to gale again in exposed places.
About 1800 metres.
Scattered rain clearing this morning then mainly fine, but rain returning
Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks
Mainly fine, but isolated showers in western areas. Rain developing late evening,
possibly heavy and thundery with snow above 1200 metres.
Southern Alps and Fiordland
Rain developing in Fiordland this morning and spreading north from afternoon,
with some heavy and possibly thundery falls, easing to showers in Fiordland this
evening. Snow to about 1000 metres.
Northwesterlies, strong in exposed places with gales this morning in Fiordland.
About 1400 metres.
