    Southeasterlies, turning northeasterly by this afternoon, becoming strong tonight. Northeasterlies about Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki throughout.

    Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Parks
    Rain, becoming persistent and heavier tomorrow morning, with snow lowering to 1400 metres south of Mount Cook, easing to isolated showers by the afternoon.

    Remaining South Island mountain areas
    Mainly fine, with areas of valley fog.

    WINDS
    North or northwesterly winds, gale in exposed places about and south of Arthur's Pass, with severe gales south of Mount Cook this evening.

    2000 metres, sloping to 1600 metres south of Mount Cook.
