    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Tuesday 13 April


    north island



    Raukumara Forest park to Te Urewera
    Occasional rain, with heavy falls possible tomorrow morning, clearing from tomorrow afternoon.

    Remaining North Island mountain areas.
    Scattered showers, possibly heavy today.

    WINDS
    Strong northwesterlies, gale at times.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    Above 3000 metres, lowering to 2400 metres late tomorrow.


    south island



    Kaikoura ranges
    Fine with high cloud today, Showers developing tonight, possibly heavy around noon tomorrow.

    Remaining South Island mountain areas
    Rain, with squally thunderstorms and hail possible, and snow lowering to 1700 metres, clearing south of Mt Cook tomorrow evening,

    WINDS
    Strong or gale northwesterlies, severe gale in exposed places, dying out south of Mt Cook tomorrow morning, and easing further north, then southwesterlies developing in the south.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    About 3100 metres sloping to 2600 metres in the south. Lowering to 2000 metres everywhere tomorrow.
