Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Thursday 16 August
North of Kaweka
Occasional rain, easing tonight. Cloudy periods tomorrow, and a few showers from
Periods of rain, with snow above 1300 metres at first, easing tonight.A few
showers tomorrow, becoming more frequent and heavier in the evening with
thunderstorms possible about Mount Taranaki.
Southwesterlies, gale in exposed places, easing later today. Northwesterlies
tomorrow, rising to gale in exposed places in the evening.
About 1800 metres rising to 2400 metres tomorrow morning.
North of Mt Aspiring
Fine today. Periods of rain tomorrow, with heavy falls, possible thunderstorms,
and snow lowering to 1500 metres.
Mt Aspiring and Fiordland
A few showers, turning to rain tonight with heavy falls and possible
thunderstorms tomorrow. Snow lowering to 900 metres tomorrow.
Southwesterlies north of Arthur's Pass. Northwesterlies elsewhere, rising to
gale south of Mt Cook tonight. Becoming northwest everywhere tomorrow, with
severe gales for a time.
About 1500 metres, rising to about 2000 metres this afternoon. Lowering to 1200
metres in Fiordland tomorrow night.
