    Brief forecast for the Mountains up to midnight on Sunday 26 October


    north island



    Raukumara Forest Park to Whirinaki Forest Park
    Mainly fine, cloud increasing tomorrow with isolated showers developing tomorrow night.

    Remaining North Island mountain areas
    Partly cloudy. Scattered showers developing this afternoon, easing for a time tomorrow morning.

    WINDS
    Strong westerlies, with gales about the Tararua Ranges.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    Above 3000 metres, but 2600 metres about the Tararuas, lowering to 2200 metres everywhere tomorrow.


    south island



    The Kaikoura ranges
    Mainly fine, isolated showers around midday tomorrow.

    Kahurangi National Park and the Southern Alps
    Showers, some heavy, with thunderstorms possible tomorrow morning. Snow to 1000 metres.

    Mt Aspiring and Fiordland National Parks
    Showers, sometimes heavy, with thunderstorms possible tomorrow morning and afternoon. Falling as snow from tomorrow evening.

    WINDS
    Gale westerlies, severe gale in exposed places.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    1800 metres sloping to 1000 metres in the south.
