An 800-thousand-dollar budget for the review of New Zealand's electricity system

An 800-thousand-dollar budget for the review of New Zealand's electricity system

    3 October 2025
The Government set aside that amount for the review - conducted by Frontier Economics - whose recommendations it went on to broadly reject.

About a quarter of that sum - 200-thousand dollars - was put aside for two experts to peer-review the report by Frontier, which also had expert assistance to the tune of 60-thousand dollars.

Energy Minister Simon Watts says the exact figures are commercially sensitive - but the spending for a detailed review was worth it.
