Liverpool seal Premier League title with 5-1 rout of Postecoglou's Spurs

Liverpool win the English Premier League with a 5-1 victory over Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham at Anfield.

    28 April 2025

Liverpool won the English Premier League this morning with a 5-1 victory over Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham at Anfield.

After going behind to an early goal from Dominic Solanke, Liverpool powered back with strikes from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gapko before half-time.

The title was confirmed after the break as Mohamed Salah added another and Destiny Udogie's own-goal rounded off the rout.

The Merseyside club’s record-equalling 20th English league title, sealed with four games to spare, matched the achievement of its great rival Manchester United.

Anfield celebrated five years after COVID-19 restrictions prevented Liverpool fans from marking the team's first top flight title triumph in 30 years.

This time, the Reds faithful wasted little time getting the party started on another Premier League success.

"To win the Premier League here with the fans is special, it's an incredible feeling," Liverpool star Mohamed Salah said after the match.

"This is way better than five years ago, without a shadow of a doubt. To do it again after five years is something special."

Kenny Dalglish, who managed Liverpool's victorious 1990 team, was among those celebrating at Anfield on Sunday.

They broke into chants of "Champions!" at numerous times during the second half, and Liverpool players and staff on the touchline dashed onto the pitch the second the final whistle sounded to dance wildly.

They lined up arm-in-arm in front of the Kop — Anfield's dedicated supporters' stand — and team captain Virgil van Dijk, with the game ball tucked under one arm, led a stirring rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone as stadium staff choked back tears.

"I was desperate for them [the fans to be here] of course, for all the fans around the world, for the fans here, but for us as well," Van Dijk, who was a part of the 2020 squad, said.

Liverpool's manager Arne Slot also echoed that messaging, saying the club's title meant much more for the fans in attendance.

"[The fans being here] is what makes it special," he said.

"[Five] years ago they won the league. It was an amazing accomplishment. But the fans weren't there. So you can feel how important it was for them to be here. And the boys did an outstanding job today -- including our fans."

Thousands more fans celebrated outside the stadium, setting off flares before the game ended in a party that was sure to go well into the night.

Slot joined the list of club greats in only his first season after replacing Jürgen Klopp.

Slot joins a select group of managers by winning the title in his first year in the Premier League era — following Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Manuel Pellegrini and Antonio Conte.

He managed the feat with plenty to spare, with Liverpool 15 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal with four rounds of the season to go.
