The electricity market could be in for a shake-up

The electricity market could be in for a shake-up

    27 February 2025
The Electricity Authority is proposing measures to stop the big four powercos giving their own retail arms preferential treatment.

The Government's also lifting restrictions to let lines companies invest more in generation.

Energy Minister Simon Watts says this will create a level playing field and ultimately bring power prices down.

He says this work will ensure gentailers give all participants equal access to electricity hedge contracts.
