Palestinian photojournalist Ali Jadallah wins Siena Awards Photo Festival

Ali Jadallah's photo, called Leaving Home, shows three people emerging from the rubble of their damaged building.

    5 October 2025

The Siena Awards Photo Festival has announced its overall winner, awarding its top prize to Palestinian photojournalist Ali Jadallah.

His photo, called Leaving Home, shows three people emerging from the rubble of their home, which was badly damaged in an attack.

He took it on June 14, 2024 in Deir al-Balah, in the Gaza Strip.

"The image returns with extreme visual force the violence of destruction and, at the same time, the stubborn presence of human dignity," a Siena Awards statement said.

The winner was announced at the Teatro dei Rinnovati in the Italian city of Siena over the weekend.

But Jadallah's photo wasn't the only winner, with judges awarding prizes to the top photographers across a range of categories.

Here are some of the other winners:

    The beauty of nature

    Fascinating faces and characters

    Journeys and adventures

    Underwater life

    Street photography

    Under 20

    Documentary and photojournalism

    Sports in action

    Animals in their environment
