Changes to the Residential Tenancies Amendment Bill could hit renters in the pocket

Changes to the Residential Tenancies Amendment Bill could hit renters in the pocket

    6 August 2020
The bill passed under urgency last night.

Ninety day no-cause evictions will end, meaning landlords must offer more robust reasons for getting rid of tenants.

Property Investors Federation chief executive Sharon Cullwick predicts about 20 per cent of landlords could exit the market.

She says that means rents could rise.

Cullwick says tenants who are finding it hard to find a property to rent now, won't be able to find one in the future -- and says the emergency housing waiting list will increase substantially.
