Net migration to New Zealand's tumbled from last year - but is still high compared to other countries

    11 September 2024
Stats NZ reveals in the year to July, international migration bumped up our population by 13 people - for every 1000 living here.

For the year ending June 2023, that number was 21 for every 1000 people.

Migration remains high by historical standards - largely from relaxing Covid-related border restrictions.

It's also higher than typical for countries like Canada, the UK and the US - and is close to Australia and Ireland.
