Opportunities for other economies to grow out of the fallout of the United State's trade policy

Opportunities for other economies to grow out of the fallout of the United State's trade policy

    19 April 2025
The US has created vast uncertainties - with an escalation in trade tensions with China, and tariffs on all of its trading partners.

AUT economics professor Niven Winchester forecasts a resulting 0.03 drop in our GDP.

He says countries like India and Vietnam look to gain over the next 25 years - because they produce goods that can substitute for Chinese products.

Winchester says we can think of India like China 30 years ago - set for rapid growth - and likely hovering around 10 percent of global GDP by 2050.
