Southern Cross Travel Insurance says in 2025 it paid out more than 7.3-million dollars in claims.
One of the most expensive claims was 650-thousand dollars for a person who became sick in Italy.
Chief Customer Officer Jess Strange says travellers over the age of 50 are becoming a greater cost.
She says they accounted for over a million dollars in claims in 2025 - double that of 2024.
