    More New Zealanders appear to be opting for a city-break this Waitangi weekend

    Data from Expedia shows Taupo is the standout destination, with a 240-percent jump in year-on-year interest - followed by Rotorua with a 70-percent lift.

    Auckland, Wellington and Chrischurch also topped the list.

    Expedia NZ Director Haley Purdon says those main cities have a lot of new accommodation options.

    She says people want to experience something a little different..
