    The final pre-Christmas spending splurge is underway

    It's already busy in the shopping malls and close to mayhem in some supermarkets.

    EFTOS operator Paymark expects 300 million dollars will be spent each day up until Christmas Eve.

    Paymark's Darren Hopper says a lot of that is going on alcohol.

    In the week ending of on the 14th of December 383 million was spent on food and liquor alone.
