A shopper has been stunned to see her local supermarket selling watermelons for as much as $100 each

A shopper has been stunned to see her local supermarket selling watermelons for as much as $100 each

    6 June 2022
The supermarket chain, Farro, says the steep price tag was because watermelon is out of season and the fruit had been imported.

Auckland's Megan Robinson shared a photo of the 10 kilogram watermelon on social media, with a Farro supermarket price tag of $102.25.

Farro says the seedless watermelon in this instance was sourced from Australia as there is no watermelon available in NZ.

That means it incurred high supply chain costs.
