The Finance Minister's ruling out more funding for most Government agencies and departments

The Finance Minister's ruling out more funding for most Government agencies and departments

    29 April 2025
Nicola Willis has revealed at a pre-budget speech in Lower Hutt, that she's cutting the operating allowance in next month's Budget, from 2.4 billion dollars to 1.3 billion.

Fiscal forecasts, due out later this week, are expected to show the Government in surplus in 2029.

Willis says there must be a strong case for any extra funding, outside key areas like frontline health, education, law and order, and defence.

She says the Government will need to justify borrowing any extra money, that wouldn't be better spent on priority areas.
