A dispute between the unions representing nurses and midwives, over ongoing strike action

A dispute between the unions representing nurses and midwives, over ongoing strike action

    3 September 2025
Nurses' Organisation members went on strike yesterday - and will do so again tomorrow - over unsafe staffing levels.

The midwives union says its members won't be taking part - and has accused NZNO of misleading the public by suggesting midwives are also striking.

It claims this has created unnecessary anxiety.

But NZNO delegate Noreen McCallan rejects this - saying some midwives are NZNO members and are on strike.

She says obstetric care, and child and mum care, will still be given as life-preserving services.
