    Rising unemployment is still being felt more in certain regions, sectors, and age groups

    5 November 2025
    Stats NZ data due out this morning is expected to show the unemployment rate's risen, from 5.2 percent in the June quarter to 5.3 percent in the September quarter.

    It's expected to be higher in Auckland, among young people, and in construction.

    Economist Shamubeel Eaqub says the breakdown in the figures will be interesting.

    He says the regional variations will show how job market recovery is starting to take shape.
