Only a quarter of Westpac customers are making automatic monthly payments into savings accounts.

Canterbury and Otago customers are squirreling away the most, with a median of 42-hundred dollars in both regions.

Aucklanders are saving the least, with about 12-hundred dollars in their accounts on average.
