Room for improved governance - to bring down the number of children living in material hardship

Room for improved governance - to bring down the number of children living in material hardship

    4 April 2025
An Auditor-General report reveals a lack of confidence in meeting our 10-year goal to 2028 - of halving child poverty.

It reveals our response requires better coordination across agencies.

Principal Performance Auditor Sarah Hayward says we also need to focus more on disparities - particularly for Maori and Pasifika children, and those with a disabled family member.

She says it's incredibly important we strengthen engagement with the groups that are disproportionately disadvantaged in child poverty statistics.
