Annual net migration reached 63,800 in the year to July, down eight thousand 600 from the record of 72 thousand,400 a year ago.

Stats NZ says the migration rate is easing, but is high by historical standards.

The decrease was mainly due to more foreign citizens leaving the country, after being in New Zealand for at least a year.
