The Health Ministry didn't close a central Auckland supermarket visited by a man with Covid-19 ... because he wasn't positive at the time

    9 July 2020
A man in his 30s escaped the Stamford Plaza on Tuesday night for about 70 minutes, with 20 minutes spent at the Victoria Street West Countdown.

He returned a positive test yesterday morning.

Countdown made its own decision to close and do a deep clean - it re-opened at 7am yesterday , but closed early, an hour and a quarter later.

When asked by Newstalk ZB why the store wasn't closed as a precaution, a Health Ministry spokesperson says the man wasn't identified as positive at the time.

They add he wasn't showing any symptoms and the risk of transmission is considered low.

    The store's due to re-open at 7am.
