Local producers of french fries say they're facing unfair competition from overseas suppliers

Local producers of french fries say they're facing unfair competition from overseas suppliers

    7 November 2020
The Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment has launched an investigation into claims European chips are saturating our local market.

Potatoes New Zealand claims the chips are being dumped here, due to a drop in demand for them overseas.

Chief Executive Chris Claridge says they're relieved the government has recognised the danger this poses to the national industry.

He says importers should be notified that they can't act in a predatory manner by dumping fries into the market for short-term economic gain.
