Kate Hudson is a “strict mother”

The 41-year-old actress has sons Ryder, 16, and Bingham, nine, as well as daughter Rani Rose, two, and has said there are “certain things” she won’t negotiate with her kids about, so considers herself to be “strict” in certain scenarios

    27 November 2020
She said: “I’m a strict mother. [My parenting style] came as a surprise to my entire family when I became a mother.

"But it's the things that I'm strict about. Where I am strict is that there are certain rules that I put down. I don't negotiate with my kids about certain things.

"And what I realised about that is that when you set that standard in your home, you don't end up in long-winded negotiations. When I say no, it's done.”

Kate is particularly strict when it comes to manners, as she says she has “no tolerance” for her kids telling lies.

She added: “I’m very, very strict about manners. I have no tolerance for lying. The tiny lies or the big ones.”

And the ‘Almost Famous’ star says she wants her children to have “reasonable boundaries”, because she believes it forms an “important part of their development”.

She said: “[Parents] need to create reasonable boundaries [and] draw some lines in the sand so that [children] can test them.

"And that's, I think, an important part of their development. How far they can push something. And how you as a parent handle it is a huge part of growing up."

But even though Kate is strict with her own kids, she insisted she never judges others on their own style of parenting.

Speaking to People magazine, she explained: “There's way too much judging going on in the world. We all need to have an open mind and feel good about what we're doing and let other people live the way they want to live.”
