    A shake-up to New Zealand's disaster insurance

    A shake-up to New Zealand's disaster insurance

    28 June 2021

The world-first programme aims to simplify making claims after a natural disaster.

The Earthquake Commission and eight private insurers are joining forces to create a single point of contact system.

In the past, claims were assessed by the commission, then a private insurer - creating delays and stress.

But from Wednesday, just one claim needs to be made to sort out any coverage.

Earthquake Commission Minister David Clark says this will remove complexity during a difficult time.
