    Gale warnings for COOK and STEPHENS

    Situation:
    A deep low over the Tasman Sea moves southeastwards and drives a strengthening northeasterly flow over New Zealand. Several fronts associated with the low cross the country today and tomorrow. The large trough over the country on Friday moves out to the east late in the day, or early Saturday. A ridge of high pressure moves onto New Zealand during Saturday. A low over the Tasman Sea approaches the centre of the country on Sunday.

    Forecast issued at 1031hrs Wednesday 02-Apr-2025
    Valid to 1 pm Wednesday for Inshore waters from Waitarere to Pukerua Bay and out to Kapiti Island.
    Wednesday: Variable 5 knots. Southerly 10 knots developing for a time this afternoon. Northeast 15 knots developing late evening. Sea slight. Cloudy. Northwest swell 1 metre developing.
    Thursday: Northeast 15 knots, rising to 20 knots south of Otaki in the afternoon, then rising to northeast 20 knots gusting 30 knots everywhere in the evening. Sea becoming moderate in the south in the afternoon, then everywhere in the evening. Mainly fine with morning high clouds. Poor visibility in scattered rain developing in the afternoon. Northwest swell 1 metre rising to 1.5 metres.

    Outlook until midnight Sunday:
    Friday: Northeast 20 knots, turning northwest 20 knots in the afternoon.
    Rain, easing. Northwest swell 1 metre.
    Saturday: Northwest 20 knots, easing to variable 5 knots early. Becoming
    northerly 10 knots later. Showers, clearing. Northwest swell 1 metre
    dying out.
    Sunday: Northerly 10 knots. Rain developing.
