On Friday morning, the front moves east of the country. On Saturday, a low in the Tasman Sea moves slowly across the North Island, while a weak ridge builds over southern New?Zealand. The low moves east of the country, with some stronger winds still lingering to the east. By Monday, the ridge has become established. Forecast issued at 0341hrs Thursday 03-Jul-2025 Valid to 5 am Thursday for Inshore waters between Cape Kidnappers and Portland Island. Gale warning. Thursday: Northeast 15 knots, rising to 20 knots gusting 30 knots in the morning, then to 25 knots gusting 35 knots east of Napier to Wairoa late afternoon. Rising to 35 knots gusting 45 knots in the east for a time in the evening. Sea becoming very rough in the east for a time late evening. A few showers, turning to poor visibility in rain in the evening, heavy at times. Southerly swell 1 to 1.5 metres. Outlook until midnight Sunday: Friday: Northeast 20 knots but 25 knots east of Napier to Wairoa, easing to northerly 15 knots everywhere early morning. Occasional rain, clearing.
