    GALE for BRETT

    Situation:
    The front moves southeast across the country, bringing heavy rain and strong northeasterly winds to northern and central New?Zealand. On Friday morning, the front moves east of the country. A trough moves northwards across central and northern New Zealand on Saturday, followed by southerlies and a period of rain. On Sunday and Monday, a ridge of high pressure builds across the South Island, while southerlies continue over the North Island.

    Forecast issued at 1128hrs Thursday 03-Jul-2025
    Valid to 1 pm Thursday for The Bay of Islands and inshore waters from Cape Brett to the Poor Knights Islands to Bream Head.
    Gale warning.
    Thursday: Northerly 30 knots gusting 45 knots, rising to 40 knots gusting 55 knots for a time in the afternoon and early evening. Easing to 15 knots by late evening. Sea becoming very rough for a time in the afternoon and early evening. Poor visibility in rain, with possible squally thunderstorms, clearing late evening. Northeast swell 2 metres, rising 3.5 metres.
    Friday: Northerly 15 knots, turning northwest 15 knots in the morning. Rising to 20 knots in the evening. Sea becoming moderate in the evening. Poor visibility in showers, heavy at times. Possible thunderstorms from afternoon. Northerly swell 3.5 metres, easing to 2 metres.

    Outlook until midnight Monday:
    Saturday: Northwest 20 knots, easing to westerly 10 knots in the afternoon.
    Fine. Northeast swell 2 metres.
    Sunday: Southwest 10 knots, turning southeast 10 knots early. Partly cloudy.
    Northeast swell easing to 1 metre.
    Monday: Southerly 10 knots, turning easterly 10 knots early. Partly cloudy.
    Easterly swell 1 metre.
