High pressure weakens on Sunday and retreats to the North Island. Meanwhile, a weakening front moves northward over the South Island, reaching the southern North Island by Sunday night. On Monday and Tuesday, high pressure lies to the east, extending a ridge over the country, while a deepening low remains slow-moving over the Tasman Sea. On Wednesday, the low brings strong winds to western parts of the country, and the ridge moves east near the Chatham Islands.
